photos from the weekend

Eric and I started off the weekend with a trip to the neighborhood farmer's market.
On our walk there we came across this. A bunch of these 'animals' have been popping up, but I loved having them all together, dancing!

Once we arrived at the farmer's market I think I squealed when I saw fresh chamomile. I had never seen it in real life!

As soon as we got home I cleaned the bunch and put it in some water for tea.

We spent the rest of the day cooking and cleaning...we were having some friend's over to celebrate our first year in Philadelphia. I can't believe that the year is already over and we are starting our second year here.
We put together some finger food, chips and salsa, veggies and hummus, strawberries, pita bread and cookies.
Eric made the cookies, vegan oatmeal cookies with goji berries.

And I made the pita bread.

We also got a quarter keg from Slyfox, a local brewery.

In addition to the keg, I made a jalapeno lime spritzer. I came across the recipe in this month's Real Simple and it sounded perfect for a summer evening.

jalapeno lime sprtizer

It's pretty simple, combine 3 cups club soda, 1/4 cup lime juice, 1/4 cup agave, 1 thinly sliced lime and 1 thinly sliced jalapeno pepper. You can then add tequila if you like.

Later in the night we celebrated by opening a bottle of Shiner. Shiner is to Texas as Yeungling is to Pennsylvania.

I actually found this bottle in a gas station in North Carolina when we were moving up here. I was scared I would never get to drink Shiner again, so I bought the bottle. I was saving it for a special occasion, and figured this was a good time to crack it open.
Our neighborhood beer distributor just started carrying it as well, so it's not like I have to go without it now.

Woo! To one year of living in the Northeast.

The party was great and thank you to all our friends who came over! Eric and I both had a lot of fun.

We woke up Sunday morning to a fairly clean house. We put away a few party supplies then got to work on lunch.

I made a simple slaw salad for us to share, it was spicy! It had green cabbage, purple cabbage, carrots, jalapeno, lime juice, peanuts, hemp seeds, hemp oil, siracha and rice wine vinegar.

The rest of Sunday was filled with the usual errands and when we got home from the grocery store we were both craving pizza.
I made a quick rise pizza dough, it wasn't great, but worked in a pinch.

My pizza was topped with sweet potatoes and cashew cream.

And Eric went more traditional with marinara and cashew cream.

We ate outside on the deck.

A nice way to finish up the weekend.

I want those cookies! I have been adding goji to everything. Can you post your pita recipe?

Happy end of first year in Philly!

We were really sad that you guys weren't around for the party (next time plan your honeymoon at a different date, mmk?), so we will definitely be having another so you can come!

Oatmeal-goji berry cookies are something I've wanted to make for a long time! Much yummier and prettier than raisins.

You made homemade pita? Impressive!

Kelly game plan is to get the pita recipe up a night this week and I'm hoping on getting a few more ready as well. This blog needs more recipes!

For the cookies there are still a few left (I hid some before the party :)) if you want to try them. I did add bits of pecans to the oatmeal-goji cookies for taste/texture as well.

Ooh, fresh chamomile is super exciting!!! I'd LOVE to try that. How did the tea turn out?!

Congrats on your one year NE anniversary!

The tea turned out great! I made ice tea, but I hope to make hot some time this week.
Now I really want to grow chamomile!

Oh man, I finally made cashew cream and started adding it to smoothies. I'm trying to figure out how to make some sort of alfredo sauce out of it since it has such a perfect creamy consistency. I really want to make the thicker version at some point though because it sounds really good sweetened up and served with fruit.
sweet pizzas yo.

That spritzer looks so refreshing! I love Real Simple! That cashew pizza also looks pretty fab - I hadn't thought to use it as a topper but now the idea sounds pretty obvious!

Lauren said...

Amanda you have to try cashew cheese on pizza! It gets all crusty in the oven and is delicious!

Lauren, inspired by you I made a pita pizza with cashew cheese, basil, and nooch for lunch yesterday and it was super sexy, even if the pita was store-bought. Today I think I will try a cashew cheese salad with avocado and raw chip croutons. It's the summer of cashews.

Let us know when you are free this week and we will stop by!

Uh oh brownies and donuts??! This sounds like bad news. A dessert and beer party sounds like a good idea though.
