photos from the weekend

Eric and I started off the weekend with a trip to the neighborhood farmer's market.
On our walk there we came across this. A bunch of these 'animals' have been popping up, but I loved having them all together, dancing!

Once we arrived at the farmer's market I think I squealed when I saw fresh chamomile. I had never seen it in real life!

As soon as we got home I cleaned the bunch and put it in some water for tea.

We spent the rest of the day cooking and cleaning...we were having some friend's over to celebrate our first year in Philadelphia. I can't believe that the year is already over and we are starting our second year here.
We put together some finger food, chips and salsa, veggies and hummus, strawberries, pita bread and cookies.
Eric made the cookies, vegan oatmeal cookies with goji berries.

And I made the pita bread.

We also got a quarter keg from Slyfox, a local brewery.

In addition to the keg, I made a jalapeno lime spritzer. I came across the recipe in this month's Real Simple and it sounded perfect for a summer evening.

jalapeno lime sprtizer

It's pretty simple, combine 3 cups club soda, 1/4 cup lime juice, 1/4 cup agave, 1 thinly sliced lime and 1 thinly sliced jalapeno pepper. You can then add tequila if you like.

Later in the night we celebrated by opening a bottle of Shiner. Shiner is to Texas as Yeungling is to Pennsylvania.

I actually found this bottle in a gas station in North Carolina when we were moving up here. I was scared I would never get to drink Shiner again, so I bought the bottle. I was saving it for a special occasion, and figured this was a good time to crack it open.
Our neighborhood beer distributor just started carrying it as well, so it's not like I have to go without it now.

Woo! To one year of living in the Northeast.

The party was great and thank you to all our friends who came over! Eric and I both had a lot of fun.

We woke up Sunday morning to a fairly clean house. We put away a few party supplies then got to work on lunch.

I made a simple slaw salad for us to share, it was spicy! It had green cabbage, purple cabbage, carrots, jalapeno, lime juice, peanuts, hemp seeds, hemp oil, siracha and rice wine vinegar.

The rest of Sunday was filled with the usual errands and when we got home from the grocery store we were both craving pizza.
I made a quick rise pizza dough, it wasn't great, but worked in a pinch.

My pizza was topped with sweet potatoes and cashew cream.

And Eric went more traditional with marinara and cashew cream.

We ate outside on the deck.

A nice way to finish up the weekend.

photos from the weekend

Friday marked the end of the first week of summer hours at work, meaning I got out at 12:30! It was really awesome to get home at a decent hour. I celebrated by getting a manicure then meeting Eric for happy hour.

We hit our usual joint, Cantina Dos Segundos, and I tried a blackberry margarita. It was good, but I can never have more than 1 because the sugar really upsets my stomach.

After heading home for a quick bite, Eric and I rode our bikes to Belgian Cafe for some beer week festivities. Eric is planning on doing a post on beer week, so I will only post one photo.

We each had 3 beers at Belgian, but they were all atleast 10% and rightly knocked us on our ass.

Somehow Saturday during the day got away from us. I went to the gym and Eric partook in more beer week festivities.

Saturday was a big night...IT WAS JOSH AND KELLY'S WEDDING!

The wedding was awesome! Eric and I are going to do a post completely dedicated to the wedding, but we had so much fun. I am so happy we became friends (through blogging!) and I couldn't be happier for the two of them.

Sunday was a taking care of business day. We spent the morning running all kinds of errands.
After almost a year of looking, I finally found a print to hang above our bed. I was happy to finally frame it and get it hung Sunday morning.
I think the print sums up my life.
new poster!!

It's two cats in a bike basket...and don't mind the messy bed.

The cats spent the morning playing outside, and spent the afternoon sleeping.

Eric and I both agreed we have been indulging a little too much lately (beer week, weddings, visitors in town, etc.) and want to get back on track with our eating.
At Josh and Kelly's wedding they served a delicious looking eggplant dish. It wasn't vegan so I didn't try it, but I haven't gotten it out of my head. I decided to try to recreate my version. I sliced some eggplant then breaded it, and it's now hanging out in my dehydrator.

Ok so a few sentences ago I wrote that Eric and I were going to really zone in on our eating, but we couldn't pass up an offer from Juli, Abby and Adam for a Sunday night dinner at Kingdom of Vegetarians. Greasy Chinese food...all vegan!

For appetizer we had BBQ ribs

And scallion pancakes

I didn't get pics of everyone's entree, but a few of us tried some new things.

In other exciting news, Eric and I arrived in Philadelphia exactly one year ago today!
